Basketball icon Julius “Dr. J” Erving recently joined Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” Presented by Playmaker HQ, where he unveiled his picks for the greatest dunkers in NBA history.

During the podcast, Erving identified the elite group of high-flyers who would join him on his hypothetical “Mt. Rushmore” of dunkers.

Among his top selections were Vince Carter, Dominique Wilkins, and Michael Jordan, highlighting their gravity-defying aerial displays and iconic slam dunk contest performances.

Erving emphasized that while he could only choose four for his symbolic Mt. Rushmore, the list of exceptional dunkers extends beyond those honored few.

He recounted a memorable photograph displayed in his home featuring himself alongside Wilkins, Carter, Kobe Bryant, Jordan, and Clyde Drexler, underscoring the depth of talent in the realm of slam dunking.

Erving shared, “That ain’t hard. Vince Carter, Dominique [Wilkins] and I’ll go with MJ [Michael Jordan]..But the list is more than four. I got a photograph in my house that’s me Dominique, Vince Carter, Kobe Michael and Clyde Drexler standing side by side in suits getting ready to judge the Slam Dunk Contest.”

With the NBA’s rich history of spectacular dunkers spanning generations, Erving’s Mt. Rushmore serves as a tribute to the enduring allure of gravity-defying feats and the enduring impact of those who have elevated the art of dunking to new heights.
