The Sixers might delay getting another star player until the offseason, as per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. During the “NBA on ESPN” show, Wojnarowski mentioned that Philadelphia is inclined to keep its cap space intact for the upcoming summer.

The plan is to then actively pursue a high-salary player through a trade or free agency. For the current season, the Sixers are leaning towards making a less flashy move instead.

Wojnarowski highlighted the Sixers’ mindset when they traded for James Harden with the Clippers. There was an initial expectation that they might need to acquire a star player at the trade deadline to compete with Boston and Milwaukee in the East.

However, the team is now demonstrating that they can potentially succeed without adding a third star, possibly opting for more subtle adjustments.

“When (the Sixers) made the James Harden trade with the Clippers, there was a sense they may have to … at the trade deadline, find a star player to be able to keep up with Boston and Milwaukee in the East,” Wojnarowski said.

“They’re showing with this group they can do it maybe without a third star, maybe (do) something around the edges.”
