LeBron James, along with the affirmations of head coach Darvin Ham, has consistently emphasized that Anthony Davis holds the leadership position within the team.

Despite these assertions, the dynamics on the court often portray a different story, raising questions about Davis’ role in leading the Lakers.

Speaking on the ‘Gil’s Arena’ podcast, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas elaborated on Davis’ leadership style, suggesting that the Lakers’ star lacks the personality traits typically associated with team leadership.

He highlighted that Davis holds a deep respect and admiration for James, making it challenging for him to step into a more dominant leadership role within the team.

Arenas drew parallels from NBA history, emphasizing the significance of individual mentality when it comes to assuming the mantle of leadership in a star-studded team.

“He admires him too much… When did Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) hand over the keys to Kobe [Bryant]? Never,” Arenas stated. “He never handed it over. Kobe took it and said ‘This is me and I don’t want him no more.’ It’s the mentality. The only way you gonna get respect is to just say ‘I’m going to do it.'”
