Enes Kanter Freedom, who was effectively kicked out of the NBA in February of 2022 because of his strong vocal opinion on the treatment of Uyghur Muslims by communist China, strongly criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for stating that Hamas is not a terrorist group.

He referred to this assertion as ‘the biggest problem in the region.’

“Erdogan literally is the first leader in the world that came out and said Hamas is not a terrorist organization,” Freedom said. “And we’re talking about a NATO ally; think about it, think about how crazy that is.

“So Turkey and Iran is a safe haven for these groups, Hamas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah; they raised huge amount of money for these groups. And actually, Erdogan, dictator Erdogan, gives them Turkish passport, so they can go in and out of some of these countries out there.”

Freedom urged for pressure to be applied to Turkey, a NATO member, for not opposing Hamas. Specifically, he called on the United States to take the lead in addressing this issue.

“These dictators get so much confident because our administration is so weak right now,” Freedom said. “So I’m hoping on Joe Biden or whoever to just be hard on these dictatorships.”
