The Golden State Warriors have secured their status as the NBA’s most valuable team for the second consecutive year, with a valuation of $7.7 billion, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.
Forbes’ recent rankings reveal that the Warriors generated a staggering $765 million in revenue during the 2022-23 season, an impressive figure that surpasses all other NBA teams by 48%.
Joining the Warriors in the upper echelons of NBA team valuations are the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers, both boasting valuations exceeding $6 billion.
The Knicks, with a valuation of $6.6 billion, and the Lakers, valued at $6.4 billion, hold the second and third spots on the list of the league’s most valuable teams.
As a whole, the NBA’s financial landscape has seen remarkable growth, with the average NBA team now worth $3.85 billion. This represents a substantial increase of 35% from the previous year and an impressive 75% surge compared to valuations in 2019.
The league’s impending revenue for the current season is estimated to reach $13 billion, marking an 11% increase over the previous season.
These remarkable surges in team valuations have been attributed to various factors, including the sales of majority stakes in several NBA teams within the past year.
Among the significant transactions were the $4 billion sale of the Phoenix Suns to Mat and Justin Ishbia in February, as well as Michael Jordan’s $3 billion sale of the Charlotte Hornets to Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin in August.
Additionally, the purchase of a 25% stake in the Milwaukee Bucks at a $3.2 billion valuation by Jimmy and Dee Haslam in April has further contributed to the league’s soaring valuations.
