Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant believes that the group’s defense can be very effective.

Reporter: “Is the defense repairable?”
Grant: “Yes, without a doubt. We have all the tools to be a great defensive team. So, I expect us to be a good defensive team this year.”
Reporter: “Chauncey [Billups] talked about communication a lot. That’s obviously been an issue in the past sometimes when the defense has faltered. Is that something that you think is a pretty big key for this defense?”
Grant: “Yeah, it’s huge. We’ve gotta be more communicative on the defensive end. Like I said, we have all the tools to be able to be a great defensive team; we’ve just gotta learn how to talk. We have a young team, so we gotta make sure everybody’s on the same page.”
Reporter: “When you say you have all the tools to be a good defensive team, is that like personnel wise as opposed to last year?”
Grant: “Definitely. We’ve got a lot of long, athletic wings. We’ve got two shot-blocking mobile bigs (Deandre Ayton & Robert Williams). We have me, Matisse [Thybulle]. We’ve got a lot of tools.”
