In a recent revelation, NBA superstar Kevin Durant has shared his advocacy for a significant change in the league’s policies regarding marijuana use. The Phoenix Suns player believes that marijuana should be taken off the banned substances list, citing its growing acceptance and lack of negative effects.

“I actually called [Adam Silver] and advocated for him to take marijuana off the banned substances list. I just felt like it was becoming a thing around the country, around the world. The stigma behind it wasn’t as negative as it was before. It doesn’t affect you in any negative way… He agreed and you see where we went… It’s the NBA, everybody does it. It’s like wine at this point,” Durant passionately expressed.

The NBA indeed removed marijuana from the Prohibited Substances List, according to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The most significant change is the elimination of marijuana drug testing requirements, allowing players to legally consume cannabis off the court. However, they remain prohibited from using marijuana while engaged in team activities or during NBA events.

With this policy change, the NBA is keeping up with the evolving perception of marijuana, recognizing its potential medicinal benefits and aligning with the changing attitudes towards its use.
