Former NBA star Sam Cassell, who recently joined the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach, has heaped praise on Golden State Warriors’ superstar Steph Curry. Cassell believes that the four-time NBA champion is the second-best point guard in basketball history.
In a conversation with Kevin Garnett on KG Certified, Cassell expressed his admiration for Curry’s unique skills, particularly his remarkable shooting ability. He also commended Curry’s exceptional ball-handling skills, comparing him to Kyrie Irving as one of the best finishers among guards.
“Steph Curry has shown me so much because he has this unique ability that a lot of guys don’t have,” Cassell said. “He shoots the basketball. That’s an NBA skill. He has a great handle. Kyrie [Irving] may be the best finished as a guard, but Steph ain’t bad either. He’s is second now, behind Magic [Johnson] as the point guard (of all-time). He’s that damn good.”
Curry’s impressive performance last season certainly adds weight to Cassell’s claim. The 35-year-old averaged an outstanding 29.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game for the Warriors.
With such high praise from a former NBA star and respected coach, Curry’s legacy as one of the greatest point guards of all time is cemented even further.
