As the dust settles from the 2023 NBA Draft, some NBA executives are starting to question whether the Spurs will regret selecting Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick.

Before the draft, Wembanyama was widely regarded as the top prospect, but there were debates over whether he or Scoot Henderson would claim the top spot. Ultimately, the Spurs chose Wembanyama, while the Hornets selected Brandon Miller at No. 2 and Henderson fell to the Trail Blazers at No. 3.

During the Summer League, both Wembanyama and Henderson had limited playing time. Wembanyama had a rough start but showed improvement in his second game, scoring 27 points before being shut down for the rest of the tournament. Henderson, on the other hand, played just 21 minutes in the Blazers’ opener due to injury.

Jeff Smith of Sports Illustrated reported that NBA decision-makers are highly impressed with Henderson and have started to wonder if the Spurs made the right choice. The praise for Henderson’s potential raises questions about whether San Antonio will eventually regret passing on him.
