The Los Angeles Lakers are “actively” searching for another center in the market to beef up their frontcourt slate, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

Buha pointed out that Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo are being considered by the Lakers to potentially tap for their 14th roster helm.

The Lakers currently have a successful offseason filling up their roster upon the retainment of Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura, as well as the addition of Gabe Vincent, but one giant void that they are yet to patch up is another big man to serve as backup for Anthony Davis.

Wood, a key free agent left unsigned, played last season for the Dallas Mavericks and averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 boards for them in 67 games. A microwave center, he could be leaned on as another spark plug off the bench should Davis sit out for rest.

Biyombo, meanwhile, serves as the opposite side of Wood as he boasts a muscling frame, reliable defensive ability for a center, and elite strength. The 12-year vet played his last two seasons in the Phoenix Suns, tallying 4.9 points, 4.4 boards, and 1.2 blocks.

Los Angeles’ intent to have a backup big for Davis comes from the fact that they have to manage the All-Star’s availability and preparedness come postseason time. Last playoffs, the Lakers weren’t able to call up Mo Bamba as it endured a lengthy recovery process from ankle issues.
