Jaylen Brown is eligible to sign a super max extension with the Celtics this summer, but so far the deal has not been done. It is expected that extension will not be signed very soon.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst shared his insight into the matter, saying that Boston wants to sort other things out before offering an extension to one of the team’s two stars.

Windhorts explains that once Brown signs the extension, he will be prohibited from getting traded. He adds that both sides are interested in getting the deal done and expects it to happen at some point.

“There’s a lot of business left for the Celtics. They’ve got a lot going on,” Windhorst said. “Jaylen Brown is eligible [to sing an extension]. It’s a giant number to add five years and $270 million in a super max extension this offseason. The sides are talking.

“This is obviously a very important fragile deal. I know that there’s interest on both sides to get something done. I would expect it to head in that direction.

“The one thing to point out if Jaylen Brown does extend on this deal, he could not be traded for a year for any deal at all. He is prohibited from being traded. So the Celtics probably want to make sure all their business is locked out before going into this.”

“I think it’ll get done,” Windhorst said when asked why calls the deal ‘fragile.’ “He’s eligible for up 35% of the salary cap. But he doesn’t have to get that. The Celtics could negotiate on that. They can negotiate on a player option, they can negotiate on several things. So it’s not as simple as say ‘Jaylen, here’s your contract. Sign it or not.’ There’s aspects within the deal that you got to negotiate and until it’s done, it’s not done.”
