Chicago Bulls forward Derrick Jones Jr. has declined his $3.3 million player option for the 2023-24 season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Jones inked a two-year deal with the Bulls last year worth $6.55 million which includes a player option heading to the 2023-24 campaign. He has been in the club since 2021 after being via three-team trade.

This move is considerably connected to what he said to NBC Sports’ K.C. Johnson last April. Albeit expressing his commitment to the franchise for the two years of his contract with them, he admitted that he has no further plans yet.

As such, Jones Jr. appears determined to take a gamble and position himself for a much better deal. He averaged 5.0 markers, 2.4 boards in 50 percent shooting for Chicago throughout 64 games last season.
