After a dominating 122-101 win over the Warriors in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals, Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka is already looking ahead to the team’s next challenge: the Nuggets.

“They’re the best team in the regular season. So you got to give them the utmost respect and we’re going to,” Pelinka said about the Nuggets during his postgame press conference. “Obviously, an MVP candidate in [Nikola] Jokic. Jamal Murray’s playing well. They have a great supporting cast. They’re going to be ready.”

The Lakers certainly have their work cut out for them in the Conference Finals. The Nuggets finished the regular season with the best record in the Western Conference at 53-29 and have been playing exceptionally well in the playoffs, defeating the Timberwolves 4-2 in the first round and the Suns 4-2 in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Despite the daunting challenge that lies ahead, Pelinka remains optimistic about his team’s chances. “We’re going to celebrate this series win today. Hopefully spend some time with our moms tomorrow on Mother’s Day which would be good. But we’ll be ready to put up a fight in Denver on Tuesday when the series opens,” he said.
