New Orleans Pelicans guard C.J. McCollum revealed to reporters in the postgame of the New Orleans Pelicans’ Play-In loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder that he may get thumb surgery next week, per Christian Clark of The Times-Picayune.

McCollum struggled in their Wednesday 123-118 defeat against OKC, chipping 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting.

“I needed surgery three months ago,” McCollum said. “I delayed it to try to help our team get to the playoffs. We came up short. I hurt my shoulder. That’s why I was playing with the long sleeve on. I’ll get that looked up on Monday. I did what I could to help the team and give us positive contributions. I would like to play better each night. But that wasn’t the reality for us.”

McCollum already revealed last March in his diary for Andscape that he requires thumb surgery and he will take it in the offseason. He opted to remain playing in order to help the depleted Pelicans team to still survive and make it back to the playoffs.

The veteran guard has been dealing with the said thumb injury for months, admitting that it affected him and his game on a nightly basis. Still, he went on to average 20.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.4 boards in 43.7 percent shooting this 2022-23 for 75 games of play, a slight decrease in numbers from last year.
