In today’s world basketball players are close to the fans, at least virtually as social media enables to people to contact each other regardless of distance or other circumstances.

Raptors’ forward Chris Boucher shared his experience dealing with the fans who, he says, want to talk to him just because he is famous.

He also brought up an example of how some person called him a slave because Boucher scored less points that the person bet he would.

“Now I have to be what you want me to be,” Boucher said on Yahoo Sports Canada. “If I don’t say hi to you right now it’s because I’m a dick. No. But guess what? If I wasn’t playing basketball, you wouldn’t want to say hi to me either. It’s because of who I am now. Okay, that’s cool.

“But at the end of the day if I’m going through something, I am still living my life and because I’m Chris Boucher, I’m not gonna act differently of what I would have asked any other day in my life.

“And that’s the situation we deal with right now. It’s just people don’t want to put you in trouble, people want you to do what they want. They see you.

“And the betting is not going to make it better now with the parlays and all that. I’m so over this man… Somebody said ‘I chose the wrong slave today.’ Really send me that message. I had to read it, I couldn’t believe it. Well yeah he said ‘I chose the wrong slave’ because I had only five points and you needed me to score ten.”
