Kostas Sloukas has joined Fenerbahce after writing a heartfelt letter to Olympiacos, confirming that he has departed the club.

The Greek international was also courted by rivals Panathinaikos as well as old club Olympiacos, who had hoped to re-sign the talented point guard.

But Fenerbahce, fresh off their first Euroleague Final Four appearance in history have signed Sloukas on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old came off the bench in all 29 of Olympiacos’ Euroleague games last season, as he helped his side reach the title game where they lost out to Real Madrid. Sloukas averaged 6.7 points and 3.1 assists a game for the Reds.

Sloukas published his farewell letter to the fans of Olympiacos through sports management site Kapa Sports. Below is the transcript that has been translated into English.

I fought with my thoughts and my emotions and I end up to the decision that in this particular moment the best for me as a player and my future is to continue away from Olympiacos. It is a decision that had to do only to sports criteria.

I didn’t want the whole story to become a [series]. I didn’t want and I never put Olympiacos to an auction.

I never doubted the love of Aggelopoulos’ family, who they gave me more than enough in seven years and I don’t want anybody to doubt that I appreciate and I respect the presidents and Mr. Konstantinos Aggelopoulos.

I believed in seven straight years, in every practice, in every game I gave everything (with my body and my soul) for the team and I want to believe I put a small stone to Olympiacos’ success.

I keep all the beautiful moments I had with my teammates and my coaches, with the staff, with every member of this big family.

To them I felt the need to explain my decision. I did it with respect and honesty that these people deserve.

I don’t say goodbye but we’ll meet again.
