Amid swirling rumors of being the Indiana Pacers’ main trade chip for the last few years, Myles Turner at least got support from a big name within the organization that doesn’t want him to part ways.

According to Marc Stein, there is no one within the Pacers franchise that is lobbying more against trading away the big man than head coach Rick Carlisle.

Earlier this week, it was evident that Carlisle is campaigning for Turner to stick around when he jokingly stated that he doesn’t want his starting big man to be traded.

With the Pacers making shockwaves around the league as they currently have a 23-21 record, Turner has been their main two-way anchor in the frontcourt. The veteran is savoring career high in points (17.0), rebounds (7.9), and field goal shooting percentage (55.2%) in 35 games he has played so far this season.

Indiana being competitive this year has been significant because of Turner, and it makes sense that Carlisle wants to keep him around in order for the following years to sustain their elevation and development as a young, emerging team.

As such, it would be a challenge to retain Turner, who is set to become an unrestricted free-agent following this 2022-23 campaign. The Pacers have at least an ample cap space to re-sign him, while having plenty of time on one end to assess and seize his value as the Feb. 9 trade deadline continues approaching.
