The Phoenix Suns have expressed their interest in both of the Houston Rockets wings KJ Martin Jr. and Eric Gordon (h/t Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus).

The Suns’ intent in acquiring Gordon can be traced back to last season. As the lone veteran left in the rebuilding Rockets, Gordon stands as one of the most notable ingredients of numerous trade conversations around the league given his contract and experience.

Meanwhile, Martin Jr. drawing interest from Phoenix was earlier revealed by Yahoo! Sports’ Jake Fischer. While he initially requested to be traded in the offseason given Houston’s frontcourt logjam, he is now reportedly willing to work for an extension upon his improved exposure this season under coach Stephen Silas, averaging a career-best 10.7 markers to go with 5.1 boards in 54 percent shooting in 25 games played per 24.3 minutes.

To observe, the Rockets would be more willing to let go of Gordon, who has an unguaranteed salary next season worth $20.91 million. Capitalizing his remaining value remains much more ideal, as hammering an extended partnership with the athletically 21-year-old Martin Jr. will be the best move on one end for the club.

It is safe to assume that the Rockets would be more willing to cut ties with Gordon than with Martin Jr., as he truly fits on their young timeline with Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Kevin Porter Jr., and Jabari Smith Jr.

The Suns have reasonable pieces to offer with Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson. The estranged Crowder might not garner solid interest from rebuilding teams given his desire to collect a significant role and contract as he enters the market next summer. Meanwhile, Johnson, who is still recovering from his meniscus surgery, will become an unrestricted free agent this 2023.
