The Brooklyn Nets “hope to move” sharpshooting guard Joe Harris, per Fox Sports’ Ric Bucher. Per Bucher, the Nets already have a top five loaded payroll and will be subjected to a “hefty” luxury tax from going over the league’s salary cap for the last two seasons.

As stated by Bucher, Harris is set to earn $18MM this season and an increased $19MM next year. The veteran made a return this season after having an incomplete 2021-22 campaign after recovering from a left ankle surgery.

“Both the Lakers and Nets are among the top five teams in player payroll this season. Both are also subject to a hefty luxury tax for having repeatedly gone over the threshold the last few years. That’s why the Nets, league sources said, also hope to move long-range shooter Joe Harris, who is set to make $18 million this year and $19 million next season.”

Besides salary cap issues, the Nets can find additional reasons to trade him given his age, declining game and redundancy with Seth Curry. At age 31 and now in his ninth year, Harris is currently averaging a career-low in points (7.6) since his rookie year while just draining 33.3 percent three-point shooting in 4.9 attempts per 11 games.

Despite missing the suspended Kyrie Irving, the Nets are currently clicking in all cylinders as they continue to rise atop the Eastern Conference standings. As such, it’s still too early to pull the trigger this start of the season, and Harris can be given a pass for now after not playing competitive basketball for a long time.

Harris signed a multi-year extension with the Nets last 2020, wherein the final year will be dated to the next season.
