Former NBA veteran Wilson Chandler told a story about Paul Pierce’s extremely high confidence on The Scorer’s Table with Eric Devendorf.

(via The Scorer’s Table with Eric Devendorf):

“When I was in New York and we had Amar’e. We was playing Boston in Boston. It was a close game. We was down like 4 with a couple minutes left or whatever. Somebody fouled Paul Pierce. So he at the line. He go through his routine. He shoot the free throw. Make it. So he get the ball on the second free throw and he’s like in his dribbling. He’s like taking his couple dribbles or whatever. You know how you on the side lined up. You just on the free throw line, lined up getting ready for the rebound. So just regular s***. Amar’e is like, ‘Oh, he gon’ give us one of these.’ But not even in a malice way. Like that’s what you say, ‘We gon’ get one of these.’

“He said it and Paul Pierce stopped mid routine. And he just looked back over both shoulders. I’m like, ‘What the f*** are you doing?’ He looked back at Amar’e like, ‘Who you talking to? Me? You gotta be talking to Ray or somebody. Because I done been in too many big games for me to miss these free throws right now. Matter of fact, I don’t even know why I’m arguing with you. I only argue with Kobes & LeBrons.’ Went back to his routine. Shot it. Made it. I was like, ‘What?’ And just ran back. I was like, ‘That’s the most subtle, gangster s*** ever.’ Because Amar’e at the time averaging like 28 points, 27 points.”
