Former Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard was a recent guest on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe. During their chat the two discussed Howard not being named to the NBA’s top 75 team. Howard also mentioned that he felt he should own Defensive Player of the Year four years in a row.

“How could someone say I didn’t take this game serious. When the stuff that you are mentioning three-time Defensive Player of the Year, I had to take defense serious to want to win it three time in a row,” said Howard.

“And I actually should have won it four years in a row. The last year I didn’t win it because I asked for a trade, and the media went on this whirlwind about me wanting to leave Orlando, and the person who won was Third Team All-Defense that year, and I was First Team. So, that doesn’t make any sense.”

During his time with the Orlando Magic, Howard won the DPOY award three times from 2009 to 2011, and unfortunately for Howard, Tyson Chandler would dethrone him in 2012. Howard is currently a free agent, but according to Bally Sports Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, the Brooklyn Nets had dialogue about Howard and Carmelo Anthony while on the PIX11 News.
