Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland sustained a left eye injury during his team’s season opener against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

Garland was unintentionally poked in his eye by Gary Trent Jr. late in the second quarter. He lay on the floor for several minutes and eventually left the floor to head to the dugout.

The All-star guard was ruled out for the remainder of the game, finishing four points, one rebound, and three assists in 13 minutes of action.

Per head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Garland received a laceration on the inside of his left eyelid.

“So obviously uncomfortable spot,” Bickerstaff notes about Garland’s condition, via Kelsey Russo of The Athletic. “His head and everything was clear, but he was cut and bleeding pretty bad from the inside of his eyelid.”

The Cavs ultimately fell against the Raptors, 108-105, as Pascal Siakam tallied 23 points and 11 boards to lead the home team. In his debut for Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell registered game-high 31 points, nine assists, and two boards, but these weren’t enough to seal the win.
