Basketball hall of famer Dikembe Mutombo is undergoing a necessary treatment to address a brain tumor.
In the NBA’s press release, it was clarified that the former NBA star is “receiving the best care possible from a collaborative team of specialists in Atlanta and is in great spirits as he begins treatment.” His family seeks prayers and privacy regarding these challenging times.
Mutombo, who was drafted out of Georgetown University as the fourth overall pick of the 1991 Draft, played for six different NBA teams throughout his 18-year career.
Since his entrance in the league, Mutombo already established himself as a terrifying shot-blocking summit, compiling four Defensive Player of the Year trophies, Multiple All-star, All-NBA and All-Defensive selections while registering 3,289 career blocks, second to Hakeem Olajuwon (3,830) in the all-time category. His signature “finger wag” after a succesful block became one of the best trademarks in NBA history.
Upon his retirement in the NBA, Mutombo dedicated his life to humanitarian and charity works mostly in Africa. He is a well-respected figure due to his professionalism, kindness and dedication to help communities.
