An extension between Grant Williams and the Boston Celtics remains stagnant for now.

Per Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, both sides appeared and had discussion for a probable deal, but no transaction appears imminent. Williams stands eligible for a rookie scale extension and can only be extended until the Oct. 17 deadline, or else he’ll turn into a restricted free-agent in next year’s offseason.

Added by Himmelsbach, the two were at something of a stalemate, with Williams looking for a contract ranging from $14MM to $16MM a year, while the Cs brass came up short to their proposal.

Since being drafted by the Celtics in 2019, Williams has played increased roles for the franchise. He delivered significant contributions as a 3-and-D cager while possessing the needed versatility as a shredded wingman.

Williams averaged 7.8 points, 3.6 boards an assist with a career-high 41.1 percent shooting from three last season.
