After a first-round playoff exit in 2021 when the Nuggets eliminated the Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard started asking himself if he and his team are on the same page.

The 32-year-old superstar told Logan Murdock of The Ringer how he was invited by LeBron James to his Los Angeles home a month after exiting the playoffs.

There Lillard met not only James but also Anthony Davis as they were looking for a third superstar that would help them win another championship.

Although the conversation was not really a recruitment, Lillard says, it helped him decide on what he wants to do next with his career. It became clear to him that Portland is the place for him.

“I want to win as a Trail Blazer,” Lillard recalled his thoughts. “I want to win a championship where I am.”

Lillard averaged 24 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 36.4 minutes over 29 games last season.
