New Orleans Pelicans big man Jaxson Hayes has suffered from a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow. The said injury occured during the team’s preseason match against the Detroit Pistons on Friday.

Hayes will take time to recover and further rehabilitation. He’ll be shelved and re-evaluated for two weeks, making him unavailable to play for the rest of the Pelicans’ preseason games and questionnable on season opener.

With his impending absence, fellow back up big men Larry Nance Jr. and Willy Hernangomez are expected to step up and split the rotational minutes of Hayes.
