This year’s number two draft pick Chet Holmgren will have to wait for next season to make his NBA debut. The 20-year-old forward suffered a Linsfranc injury in a pro-am event last summer.

He is not the first high pick to be sidelined with an injury for the rookie year. Sixers superstar Joel Embiid faced similar situation. He missed the first two years after getting drafted.

Despite the setbacks, the center recovered and became an MVP-level player. Holmgren revealed that got in touch with Embiid for an advice on how to deal with the situation.

Via Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire:

“It is always good to be able to look at something and be able to know it has been done before; it’s not this impossible feat. Even if it was, I was going to put my hard hat on and get to work. I spoke briefly to Joel on what his experience was like and talked to one of his trainers a little bit on it and got some good words of advice.”
