In light of the upcoming departure of Jae Crowder, the Phoenix Suns are set to start Cam Johnson for next season as confirmed by coach Monty Williams.

Williams has praised Johnson’s game, athleticism and capabilities to slide in at the fourth spot of the starting five, but reiterates his efforts to play defense.

Johnson, 26, served as a reliable shooting wingman for the Suns in the past three seasons. He started in 16 of his 66 regular season games for the club last season, averaging 12.5 points, 4.1 boards, 1.5 assists in 26.2 minutes collectively.

Both Johnson’s camp and the Suns are having negotiations of a potential rookie extension deal before the Oct. 17 deadline.
