The NBA season is getting closer, but Tyler Herro is yet to sign a contract extension with the Heat. If the 22-year-old point guard and his team do not reach agreement, he will become a restricted free agent next summer.

An anonymous Eastern Conference sees potential risks for the coming season if Herro does not sign an extension. Namely, the player could focus more on his individual statistics and play less for the team.

Via Thomas Darro of Heavy.com:

“Like a lot of guys, the thing that would worry me is that if you don’t come to an extension deal, it sours things between him and the team,” the source continued. “That’s always the thing with these extensions. Both sides want to have confidence in each other. If he does not get a deal, I would be worried about how he plays this season — he might try to do too much, be less of a willing passer, slack on defense so he can focus on putting up his own numbers.”

Last season, which was Herro’s third in the league, he averaged 20.7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 32.6 minutes per game for Miami.
