After Italy’s loss to France, Italy’s captain Gigi Datome defended his fellow teammate Simone Fontecchio, who missed two crucial free throws at the end of the regular time, via Eurohoops:
“You never miss a game from the last possession, it’s a 40 minutes game. Without Simone, we would not be here today. Simone made an incredible EuroBasket and a great game tonight. Those free throws are part of the game. If we could have made it to the last defense, nobody would remember them. Nobody has to blame Simone for those free throws,” Datome said.
