The New York Knicks have expressed openness in trading Julius Randle throughout this offseason, but they stand unconvinced to attach future assets.

As reported by The Athletic’s Fred Katz, the Knicks are unwilling to include their future first-round picks on a potential package that will send Randle away from New York.

The four remaining seasons on Julius Randle’s deal have made teams, even ones who believe last season wasn’t representative of who he is, hesitant about acquiring him. The Knicks, meanwhile, haven’t been willing to attach a first-rounder or two to send him elsewhere.

Randle’s four-year, $117 million deal will start off this upcoming season, and given that length and the potential risk of delivering unpleasant attitudes, teams would literally be unwilling to take him out.

But those future first-round picks of the Knicks are highly valuable. Utah Jazz general manager Danny Ainge has expressed his desire to grab a boatload of these to consider a Donovan Mitchell trade, but the franchise is hesitant to part ways due to their improvement standpoint in the future.

Should the Knicks truly desire to cut ties with Randle, making their picks available is indeed the price to pay.
