The Boston Celtics have signed veteran swingman Denzel Valentine to an Exhibit 10 contract, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Valentine, 28, has the chance to make into the crack of the Celtics’ full 15-man roster heading to the upcoming season, as he will compete in the team’s September training camp.

Selected by the Chicago Bulls for the 14th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, Valentine served as a good bench contributor for them in the next four seasons. He was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the start of the 2021-2022 campaign, but was shipped to the New York Knicks in near-midseason. He was eventually waived, took a 10-day deal with the Utah Jazz, and proceeded to play with Boston’s G League affiliate Maine Celtics for the rest of the season.

A known sharpshooter from beyond the arc since his collegiate days with Michigan State, Valentine has an NBA career average of 7.0 points, 3.4 boards, and 36 percent accuracy from three-point line.

The title-aspiring Boston has retooled very well this offseason upon the arrivals of Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari. Adding more spacing and three-point threat could be a considerable reason to land Valentine.
