The Houston Rockets will consider a contract extension with Kevin Porter Jr. through a team-friendly deal only (h/t HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto).
Per Scotto, the Rockets are leaning towards cap flexibility in 2023. Porter Jr., 22, is set to enter the final year of his 2019 rookie deal and will earn a $3.2MM in salary.
He is eligible for a contract extension, and the Rockets may have initially assessed their situation on the former USC standout if he deserves a big-time pay day.
Shams Charania of The Athletic has already reported last month that both Porter Jr. and the Rockets are interested in striking a deal.
After a problematic initial time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Porter Jr. found a home in Houston and transformed into their full-time point guard. He remains slated as a part of their future plans with Jalen Green, Jabari Smith and Alperen Sengun.
He pulled off with a 15.6 points average together with 6.2 assists, 4.4 boards, 1.1 steals in 61 games last season with H-town.
