Celtics star Jayson Tatum struggled with his shot as he made just 3/17 field goals and finished Game 1 of the NBA Finals with 12 points, but other players stepped up and led the team to a win over the Warriors.

After the game Boston’s head coach Ime Udoka talked about how the Celtics are different from other teams that they faced in the Playoffs on their way to the Finals. He stressed playing as a team and not being dependent on a single player.

“We look at ourselves as a complete unit, as a team,” Udoka said postgame. “We’ve seen the teams that rely on guys in the Playoffs whether it was Brooklyn in first round with Durant, Milwaukee with Antetokounmpo and Miami with Butler. If you take those guys out, teams are going to struggle.

“We pride ourselves on everybody being able to contribute on both ends. So, that’s rewarding especially on a night where your best guy has an off night others step up.

“Like I said, some of the starters on the bench other guys are playing great, Al [Horford] coming in, stepping up late.

“So, we do it, it is rewarding and knowing we can play so much better. That’s the main thing. Didn’t have a great three quarters and kept ourselves in the game. And then locked down when we needed to.”
