The Warriors held a 12-point lead as they entered the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Celtics. But a total collapse in the final period (16-40) led to Boston taking the win 120-108.

Klay Thompson, who scored 15 points for Golden State, admitted it is tough to lose in such a way. Despite the loss, he is optimistic about his team’s chances in this series.

“It’s never fun and it hurts on the big stage, obviously. Like Draymond said, there’s no reason to panic. I like our chances still. We’ll go home and we’ll digest what happened. I know we’ll be better Game 2.”

The 32-year-old shooting guard was also asked what he remembers from the past when the Warriors were in similar situations. “I remember just putting it past us,” he said. There’s no reason to hold to a loss when you have another game so soon.

“I remember watching film and realizing there’s many things we can do better and applying those strategies. It’s pretty simple. I just know we’ll be better Game 2. I’ll be better.”
