The 1983 NCAA Championship Game was one of the most memorable ones in the history of the competition in which the NC State Wolfpack narrowly defeated the Houston Cougars (54-52). The game featured future NBA greats Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.

With the game tied at 52, NC State’s Dereck Whittenburg attempted a desperate long-three which came short but Lorenzo Charles jumped, caught the ball and dunked it just before the buzzer to give his team a title.

Thurl Bailey, who led the Wolfpack in scoring, says he remembers the game and the game-winning dunk every day even though it has been 39 years since it took place.

“It’s a part of me every day,” the former NBA star told Betway. “I got stuff in my office that reminds me of it every day. I got people who write me and call me and message me and DM me that they remember it. I live it every day.

“It doesn’t have to be in sports, but I live that moment, I live that journey in almost everything that I do. Everything that I represent is about being a champion.”

That same year Bailey was drafted to the NBA by the Utah Jazz as the 7th overall draft pick. He spent 11 years in the league, averaging 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds in 26.8 minutes per game.
