Michael Malone and the Denver Nuggets have inked an extended partnership for years to come. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the terms of the contract were not disclosed

Malone assumed responsibility of leading the Nuggets in 2015, as he helped the promising squad to reach the playoffs in the past three years. His coaching strategies lifted Denver on its second conference finals appearance in 11 years, outlasting the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2020 West Semis via historic 3-1 comeback within the NBA bubble.

Prior to signing, Malone still has one more season left in his contract. As such, the agreement on both sides have cemented a mutual commitment to reach the ultimate goal of winning their first championship, as reigning MVP Nikola Jokic continues to enjoy the continuing years of his prime.

“This extension is well deserved for Coach Malone and one we are very excited to announce,” stated Nuggets Governor E. Stanley Kroenke in a press statement. “You can easily point to the on-court success that Michael has brought and the improvements the team has made each year under his watch, and you can also point to the selfless, hard-working culture that has developed and grown during his tenure. We look forward to Coach Malone continuing on the sidelines as we all work toward our goal of bringing an NBA Championship to the city of Denver.”

Despite the prolonged absences of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., the Nuggets remain as one of the most feared Western Conference giants from the leadership of both Malone and Jokic. The Mile High City currently fills the sixth seed with 43-30 card.

Throughout 546 games, Malone has managed to compile a coaching record of 309-237 (.566), the third best in franchise history amongst the head coaches’ wins.
