Russell Westbrook’s stint with the Lakers could be short lived. A new report by Jake Fishcer of Bleacher Report suggests that both the player and the team have mutual interest in parting ways this summer.

When the former NBA MVP was singed by the purple and gold last summer, his arrival was arguably the biggest move in the league, instantly increasing Los Angeles’ chances of winning a championship.

However, the partnership has not been going as expected, confirming early doubts of some analysts that did not see Russ being a good addition to the Lakers.

The only possible trade to move Westbrook away from L.A. was to send him to Houston for John Wall. However, the Rockets required a 2027 Lakers’ draft pick and the talks never got any traction.

The 33-year-old superstar has a player option in his contract this summer which he is expected to exercise. But according to Fischer’s report, the Lakers may be willing to extend his deal the way they did with Luol Deng in order to offload him.

This season Westbrook is averaging 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 34.5 minutes per game for Los Angeles.
