Enes Kanter Freedom became a free agent after he was waived by the Houston Rockets following his trade from the Boston Celtics.
The eleven-year NBA veteran was getting limited playing opportunities during his second spell in Boston. He averaged 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 11.7 minutes over 35 games this season.
Freedom was more noticeable off the court rather than on it with his comments condemning various human rights violations, including those by China.
The 29-year-old center even called out superstar LeBron James for refusing to criticize China for violating human rights. While Freedom’s public comments may not align with the NBA’s official policies, his future in the league is uncertain for other reason.
According to a couple of anonymous NBA executives, the people agree with most of his positions but he does not deliver it on the court.

Said another team’s GM, “I don’t know if anyone else signs him. Maybe not. I think from a basketball standpoint, it’s really questionable. I’m not sure if any of the other stuff will even come into play. I don’t think he won’t get a job because of anything he’s said or done. I think he just doesn’t guard, and the game is changing. He plays a lot older than he really is.”
