The Atlanta Hawks are trading forwards Cam Reddish and Solomon Hill as well as a 2025 second-round pick to the New York Knicks in exchange for Kevin Knox and a 2022 first-round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
The deal benefits both sides, as Reddish, 22, gets his wish to play for a team that has the ability to give him an increased role and an extension this summer, while the Hawks get a first-round pick that could be useful in more deal-making to eventually help improve the roster.
The Hawks reportedly canvassed the league for a mid-first round pick or a young player in the Reddish deal, per Wojnarowski, who also notes that the team also discussed Reddish scenarios with the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Reddish will now be teammates again with RJ Barrett, as the two played together at Duke, meaning they are only now missing their other college teammate Zion Williamson.
Could this mean the Knicks will eventually make a move to acquire Williamson via trade or free agency when he is eligible for restricted free agency? Only time will tell.
In 34 games this season, Reddish is averaging 11.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game, which included a career-high 34 points on Dec. 22 against the Orlando Magic.
This trade comes on the heels of a report that Hawks forward John Collins has reportedly grown “increasingly frustrated” over his role with the team.
However, Collins is not yet considered a candidate to be traded like Reddish was.
