Houston Rockets are on a rebuilding mode, but they will only trade their veteran players for valuable assets, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
The NBA insider appeared on the latest Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast to talk on NBA rumors, and what he expects to see heading to the NBA trade deadline.

“I don’t get the sense that they’re eager to dump Eric Gordon. I do think they’d have to feel like they’re getting value in return.”
Gordon averages 14.7 points and 3.4 assists in 29.4 minutes per game this season. He’s shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 45.6 percent on 3-pointers, which are both career-highs for the 14-year NBA veteran.
Both Windhorst and MacMahon pointed to Cleveland as a potential destination for Gordon, as the Cavs are already down two starting-caliber guards with the injuries on Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton.
Gordon is under contract for the 2022-23 season as well, which means the Rockets could wait on a trade for the next season. MacMahon pointed out that Rafael Stone is not a GM that tries to do right by players, so it’s possible to keep Gordon around until summer or the next season.
“(General manager) Rafael Stone does want to have a reputation as somebody who tries to do right by players. Clearly, Eric Gordon is at a point in his career where he would prefer to be playing for a playoff team. He would prefer to be playing for a contender,” MacMahon stated.
