Former Los Angeles Lakers and All-Star guard Nick Van Exel joins the Atlanta Hawks as an assistant coach, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Van Exel will replace Marlon Garnett, who accepted a job on the Charlotte Hornets’ coaching staff. Van Exel has plenty of experience as a coach, having various roles in Memphis, Milwaukee, Atlanta and the G League.

The veteran coach spent the first five years of his career in LA with the Lakers, being named an All-Star in 1998. He was the 37th overall pick of the 1993 NBA Draft.

He also had successful stints as a player with the San Antonio Spurs, the Golden State Warriors, the Denver Nuggets, the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers.
