France concluded the preliminary round of the Olympic tournament by securing a 62-79 win over Iran. The French national team completed the first round with three wins to obtain the top spot of Group A.

Vincent Collet’s squad claimed a 19-point lead (27-46) at the end of the second quarter of the game and cruised past to victory in the second half.

Iran cut the deficit to 13 points (49-62) in the fourth quarter as Collet used various lineups and deep-end bench players ahead of the knockout stage of the Olympic Tournament.

Thomas Heurtel led France in scoring with 16 points, while Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot added 12 points and five rebounds. Nando De Colo followed with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

As for the losing side, Iran’s legend Hamed Haddadi had an excellent game with a game-high 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

Iran completed the tournament with an 0-3 record, losing also to the Czech Republic and the United States.
