After getting an invitation to join Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics, Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has declined the opportunity, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Mitchell will use the time this offseason to recover and rehab from his lingering right ankle injury.

The 24-year-old missed the last 16 games of the regular season with the ankle injury and returned for Game 2 of the Jazz’s first-round playoff matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Mitchell then tweaked the ankle in the second-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers.

He made his debut for the USA Men’s Senior National Team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, where he averaged 13.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in eight games.

Mitchell joins stars LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Jimmy Butler as players who have declined a Team USA invite.
