Thomas Walkup could be on the move this coming offseason. The 28-year-old guard has been with Zalgiris Kaunas for three seasons now. Over this time, he established himself as a solid EuroLeague player and is drawing interest from bigger teams.

According to JMG Sports, he is very close to joining Maccabi Tel-Aviv that has been interested in him for a while now. Olympiacos is another team that would like to sign the American guard but is one step behind in the race.

It is also reported that Zalgiris wants to keep the player and keeps offering a new contract, but Walkup is leaning towards moving elsewhere.

The lockdown measures that prevented fans from attending the games have hit Zalgiris hard as a major part of the club’s budget was coming from the ticket sales. The 15,000-seat Zalgirio arena used to be sold out multiple times a season and led EuroLeague in attendance.

The Lithuanian champions are now having debts to pay and are expected to cut their expenses for the coming season unless the fans are allowed back in the arena.
