It’s the final we were all expecting in the FIBA World Cup, but instead it will be the climax at the FIBA world championship for women on Sunday as both teams advanced from their respective semi-finals.

Spain put the hosts Turkey to the sword by beating them 66-56 in the first semi-final thanks to a strong fourth quarter showing. Alba Torrens, who has been reasonably quiet by her high standards led all scorers for the European champions with 28 points.

Lara Sanders and Nevriye Yilmaz both led Turkey with 18 points.

They will meet the United States in the final after they defeated Australia 82-70 in the second semi-final.

Though the Opals battled away in the second half of play, the Americans did their damage in the second quarter, as they turned a slender 19-16 lead into a 42-30 advantage at half-time and from there, the Aussies were always playing catch up.

Tina Charles led the USA with 18 points.
