Houston Rockets star James Harden has recently indicated to the team that he would be open to a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon.

So far, there have been no talks with the 76ers, as Daryl Morey has been “adamant” that he wants to keep his two young stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

Teams would reportedly be reluctant to give up the assets needed to acquire a player of Harden’s caliber without confidence that he would be willing to remain with the franchise when he can opt out of his contract following the 2021-2022 NBA season, notes Wojnarowski and MacMahon.

Few contenders have the ability to give the Rockets what they would want in return.

The asking price for the Rockets is believed to be “a package that includes a young franchise cornerstone and a bundle of first-round picks and/or talented players on rookie contracts,” sources told Wojnarowski and MacMahon.

Harden has previously been linked to the 76ers along with the Brooklyn Nets, although there hasn’t been any traction in talks between the Rockets and Nets.

Rockets head coach Stephen Silas has stated that there is no timetable for Harden’s return to the team.
