The Orlando Magic have signed 2019 first round pick Chuma Okeke to his rookie contract, the team announced today.

The No. 16 overall pick did not play this past season, as he recovered from a torn ACL he suffered during the 2019 NCAA Tournament while playing for Auburn.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chuma (Okeke) to the team,” said Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “He’s demonstrated all the characteristics that we had seen in him when we drafted him and we look forward to him starting his career with us.”

In his sophomore season in college, the 22-year-old did a little bit of everything, as he averaged 12.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.2 blocks and 1.4 three-pointers per game.

Okeke could become a part of the Magic’s rotation this season, as Jonathan Isaac will miss the entire 2020-2021 NBA season with a torn ACL and a meniscus tear he suffered in the team’s “seeding games” in the Orlando restart.
