Oklahoma City Thunder assistant Maurice Cheeks is joining Billy Donovan’s staff as an assistant with the Chicago Bulls, according to Shams Charania.

Cheeks, 64, spent the last five years as an assistant under Donovan with the Thunder from 2015-2020.

He also spent four years as an assistant with the Thunder from 2009-2013.

In addition to his two stints with the Thunder, Cheeks was an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers (1994-2000) and a head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers (2001-2005) and 76ers (2005-2008).

Cheeks also coached the Detroit Pistons for 50 games in the 2013-2014 NBA season before he was fired.

The Hall of Famer as a player is a Chicago native, so he will be back in the area that he grew up in.

Cheeks becomes the second assistant on Donovan’s new staff, as the Bulls also just hired former Milwaukee Bucks assistant Josh Longstaff.
