Following the NBA’s decision to not take into account the remaining eight regular season games for the NBA awards, the league’s MVP will be voted based on the games that have been played before the shutdown. This means that players will not be able to impact their chances to win awards in Orlando.
For LeBron James, it changes nothing as he thinks he has done enough to make his MVP case. He also reacted to a popular sentiment that he could lead only in the East.
“As far as the MVP race, I showed what I’m capable of doing… There was a lot of conversation about, ‘LeBron can do those things in the East but if he ever came to the West what can he do?’ I heard all of that,” the Lakers superstar said, via Ben Golliver.
James, 35, is averaging 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists per game in his 17th season in the league. His team is leading the Western Conference.
Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is also leading the MVP race this season, is averaging 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. The Bucks are sitting atop the Eastern Conference with the best record in the entire league.
